Utilizing the engineering and design that brought about the first ever catch can system for the FSI BSH was easily able to accommodate this design request. This new version of the recirculating catch can increases the volume from 7 fluid ounces to 37 fluid ounces of actual capacity. Also added are a JIC threaded dip stick for guaranteed leak free oil level inspection and a standard drain valve. For those new to catch cans and understanding the system please follow along below. A natural byproduct of the crank case ventilation system is oil vapor making its way back into the intake. These gasses are recirculated back into the intake for emissions compliance. On factory cars where performance is only one piece of the puzzle this no problem. However when the best performance is the goal these vapors have to go! By allowing oil vapors to enter the combustion chamber you increase your chances for detonation significantly. Oil vapors will also gum up intake valves over time and the direct injection engines are much more susceptible to this than port injection engines of the past as they do not have fuel passing over the valves to wash them clean. BSH catch can systems catch oil vapors and still fully meet emission requirements. Internally the catch can has a high volume chamber baffled with aluminum mesh to force oil vapors to condense and to separate from the air as it passes through. This oil then falls into the gut of the can and can be drained easily at your convenience.
